Alfira Ahmatjan at So & So's

  • So & So's 302 West 52nd Street New York, NY, 10019 United States (map)

Alfira Ahmatjan — who performs as Jazzfira — is recognized as the first Uyghur jazz singer, and one of the most singular voices currently working in New York City. Born into Uyghur musical tradition and trained in jazz studies, classical piano, and composition, her performances occupy a deeply personal cross-cultural space where improvisation, memory, and phrasing find each other in real time.

She performed at the second Night at the Triad, where she moved the room first with a soulful traditional Uyghur song and then with a powerful rendition of Caravan. Her work has been presented at international music festivals, and she performs regularly across New York.

A warm, intimate, emotionally nuanced presence on stage. A rare Tuesday evening.
