Daniel Sky Residency at Café Ornithology

  • Cafe Ornithology 1037 Broadway Brooklyn, NY, 11221 United States (map)

Some rooms come alive late. Café Ornithology is one of them.

Daniel Sky hosts his monthly residency jam session the last Saturday of each month — bringing together a house trio and an open floor for the kind of spontaneous, high-energy jazz that only happens when musicians stop planning and start listening.

Sky is a Warsaw-born trumpet player and composer who came up through Berklee College of Music and the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, where he earned his Master's studying under Joe Lovano and Danilo Perez. His debut album Introduction to The Sky is out now. He has performed across New York's most storied clubs, arranged music for the late Ralph Peterson's Grammy-considered album Onward and Upward, and earned the endorsement of two of jazz's most respected voices: Sean Jones calls him "well respected by his peers," bringing "professionalism and integrity to every situation." Brian Newman describes his sound as one that "cuts through and stays with you."

Joining Sky on upright bass is Diallo House — NYC-based composer, bandleader of the House of Sextet, and a regular presence at Lunatico and Drom. Rounded out by Jonas Müller on drums.

This is the kind of trio that forms a room rather than fills one.

Café Ornithology offers vegan Mediterranean food, natural wines, and craft beer. Come early, eat well, and stay for the music.
