Lacy Rose and the Starlings

  • Mabou Mines 150 1st Avenue New York, New York, 10009 United States (map)

A cherished friend of the Collective takes the stage. Lacy Rose, one of the earliest members of our community, a classically trained vocalist, composer, and lyric poet, presents a "musical séance" with the Starlings: surrealist, genre-defying original art songs exploring time, metamorphosis, the Divine Feminine, and the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. Featuring string quartet, bass, and piano, directed by Dara Malina.

"Lacy's musical poetry doesn't only defy genre. It defies the temporal and emotional walls we create for ourselves, and transports us to a twinkling realm where catharsis' tears glimmer like the evening star." — Craig Cloutier

A recipient of the NYFA Women's Fund grant, Rose's song cycle LISPECTOR — a 13-song meditation on the Brazilian author Clarice Lispector — was co-produced by arranger Isaac Hayward and engineered by three-time Grammy winner John Kilgore. She has performed with Cocorosie, Baby Dee, Dave Malloy, and Carol Lipnik, made her Mostly Mozart Festival debut in the Schubertiade Remix at Lincoln Center, and appeared with her Starling Quartet at National Sawdust, HERE Arts Center, and The Tank.

Performers: Lacy Rose (voice, composer) · Dara Malina (director) · Jason Loffredo (piano) · Masha Polishchuk (violin) · Kate Goddard (violin) · Nickolas Kaynor (viola) · Laura Masferrer (cello) · Malcom Gold (bass)
