CHORD / CHAOS / CHORD Seiji Nakanishi, Piano · Kanji Nakanishi, Violin · Pi-Wei Lin, Cello Zankel Hall, Carnegie Hall · Sunday, April 12th, 2026
CHORD / CHAOS / CHORD is a piano trio concert that traces a journey from harmony through chaos and back to harmony — performed by three musicians from different countries and cultures who share the belief that music can carry hope, offer peace, and connect us beyond words. Not as escape. As shared passage through sound.
Pianist and producer Seiji Nakanishi is one of the Four Hands Collective's most beloved and longest-standing community members. A concert pianist and postgraduate associate at the Yale School of Medicine's Department of Genetics, Seiji brings to every performance an interdisciplinary depth of mind and a quiet intensity of spirit that is entirely his own. His February 2025 Carnegie Hall debut at Weill Recital Hall — undertaken with thirty days' notice — sold out completely. CHORD / CHAOS / CHORD is his return to Carnegie, this time to Zankel Hall, and this time with a trio he has assembled across continents.
Violinist Kanji Nakanishi — Seiji's brother, born in Kyoto — is a First Prize and Audience Prize winner at the Henri Vieuxtemps International Violin Competition in Belgium, currently completing a Master's at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris. Cellist Pi-Wei Lin is a Taiwanese-born Juilliard student, First Prize winner at the Tecchler-Forster Competition, and a member of the 2024 Juilliard Honors Chamber Music Competition-winning Trio Puma. Pi-Wei joins the Four Hands Collective community for the first time at A Night at the Triad on March 24th — two weeks before Zankel Hall.
Program: Grieg — Andante con moto, EG 116 Hindemith — Three Pieces for Cello and Piano, Op. 8 Prokofiev — Violin Sonata No. 2 in D Major, Op. 94bis Beethoven — Piano Trio in E-flat Major, Op. 1, No. 1
