Ukrainian Music Initiative: INTRODUCTIONS at All Souls NYC
Sunday, April 12 · 5:00–6:30PM · All Souls NYC · 1157 Lexington Avenue

The Ukrainian Music Initiative's mission is clear and urgent: to bring Ukrainian classical music into its rightful place in the Western canon. INTRODUCTIONS is their most personal format — a concert built around the musicians themselves, each performing chamber works from the Ukrainian repertoire they love most.

The ensemble features contralto Vira Slywotzky, cellist Valeriya Sholokhova, and pianists Pavlo Gintov and Margarita Rovenskaya. The program spans two centuries of composition — from Mykola Lysenko and Kyrylo Stetsenko to Valentin Silvestrov and living composers — offering a portrait of a musical tradition that is both ancient and urgently contemporary.

Valeriya Sholokhova is a longtime member of the Four Hands Collective community, having brought her characteristic courage and vulnerability to the Triad stage. Hearing her in this context — performing music that is close to her own heritage, in a room this intimate — is not to be missed.

Program includes works by: Theodore Akimenko · Andrii Didorenko · Mykola Lysenko · Valentin Silvestrov · Ihor Sonevytsky · Yakiv Stepovy · Kyrylo Stetsenko · Stefania Turkewich · Olga Zaitseva-Herz
