Brooklyn Raga Massive presents an evening with Jay Gandhi and Ehren Hanson at Barzakh Café in Brooklyn — followed by an open jam session led by BRM Artistic Director Neel Murgai.
Jay Gandhi is a multifaceted bansuri artist and founding member of Brooklyn Raga Massive whose devotion to his guru, the legendary Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, is at the heart of everything he plays. He has performed with Ravi Coltrane, Reggie Workman, Jeff "Tain" Watts, and the late Pharoah Sanders, and has been featured on acclaimed recordings including Alam Khan's Grand Tapestry and Brooklyn Raga Massive's In D. The Financial Times wrote that his playing left listeners "shaking their heads in admiring disbelief." The Brooklyn Rail called him "one of the great contemporary bansuri players."
Ehren Hanson is a Brooklyn-based tabla player, founding member of Brooklyn Raga Massive, devoted disciple of Pandit Anindo Chatterjee since 2000, and founder of the Anindo Chatterjee School of Tabla in Brooklyn. His solo tabla performance was called "enthralling" by the Times of India.
Both Jay and Ehren are beloved members of the Four Hands Collective community — and both performed at the 9th Night at the Triad.
Barzakh Café offers small plates and drinks throughout the evening. Come early. Settle in. Let the music find you.
