Lacy Rose: VISIONS (World Premiere)

  • Joe's Pub 425 Lafayette Street New York, New York, 10003 United States (map)

This January, Lacy Rose premieres VISIONS: A Meditation on the Female Muses of Gustav Klimt at Joe's Pub, as part of the PROTOTYPE Festival. Lacy is a lyric poet, vocalist, and composer whose imagistic storytelling blurs the line between song cycle, surrealism, and incantation — and whose originals have graced our Night at the Triad stage.

The work. Long fascinated by the silent muses in Klimt's paintings, Lacy gives them a voice. Across four acts — each inspired by one painting, Hope I, Hope II, Ria Munk, and Portrait of a Lady — she and the Starling Ensemble delve into the histories of the works themselves while exploring birth, death, and rebirth, identity, pregnancy, and new ways of seeing. Presented in the intimate cabaret of Joe's Pub, VISIONS brings together Rose's classically grounded vocal writing, lyric poetry, piano, and string quartet. Composed and performed by Lacy Rose; directed by Dara Malina. Run time: 60 minutes, no intermission.

The festival. PROTOTYPE, produced by Beth Morrison Projects, is the only festival of its kind in New York — a showcase for boundary-pushing opera-theatre and music-theatre, from black-box intimacy to chamber opera, built on artistic and curatorial risk-taking. It's become a global reference point for excellence in the field.

Two performances:

  • Monday, January 18 · 9:30 PM

  • Tuesday, January 19 · 7:00 PM

  • Joe's Pub

Tickets are available now, and these rooms fill early — we'd encourage you to reserve your seats in advance.

Four Hands Collective is a nonprofit supporting artists. The best way to support one is to be in the room. Bring someone who'll remember it.
