Matt Baker & Daniel Glass Trio at Wallace Lounge

  • Wallace Lounge 242 West 76th Street New York, New York, 10023 United States (map)

World-class jazz, right in the neighborhood — that's the whole idea behind the Wallace Lounge, and few nights make the case better than this one.

Matt Baker is an Australian jazz pianist who studied with Oscar Peterson, won the Montreux Jazz Festival competition, and has released six albums including Live at Birdland. He's also a co-founder and co-music director of the Four Hands Collective and the MC of A Night at the Triad — the pianist who, at our very first show, sat down with a stranger and improvised something that stopped the room and gave this organization its name.

Beside him: Daniel Glass, the Monday-night house drummer at Birdland since 2010, twice voted one of the top five drummers in the world by Modern Drummer readers, and a touring veteran with Brian Setzer and Bette Midler. Together they make the kind of piano-and-drums conversation that takes decades to build — and they bring it to the Upper West Side.

The Four Hands Collective is a nonprofit supporting artists. The most direct way to support them is to be in the room: listen deeply, and bring a friend.
